Smell and memory
Recognising a smell that is linked to a memory or place in time is one of our strongest senses. Time and time again, I hear stories of people connecting a smell with a significant memory - for example the smell of roses conjuring up recollections of a childhood summer picnic, or the perfumed air at a party which brings back memories of an old friend or loved one. This can often happen when you least expect it - acting as a trigger for a long forgotten experience, which can bring old feelings and emotions flooding back without warning.



Smell and emotion
In addition to being the sense most closely linked to a memory, smell is also highly emotive and deeply personal. So much so, that social scientists believe that kissing originally derived from smelling - a primal behaviour acted out when trying to decide if a partner is the right match or not.

When it comes to perfumes, it is no different.
